Pranavh tries to review -NGK!
First and foremost thing !
This review will be awfully biased!
Love you selvaraghavan!
If you don't like my review then , it's good .
The film opens with a scene with Bala Singh being rescued from a gutter!
Bala Singh gets out of the filth with the help of surya . Later, Surya goes up and comes out of the gutter, standing up top with a MGR poster behind him!
Such a poetic justice.
Defines how good a movie maker Selva is!
We often forget how good an actor Surya is !
He Is a delight to watch in long shots!
It will be good to say that he has ACTED after a really long time.
Who shines here in acting?
1. Surya
2. Bala Singh
3. Illavarasu
4. Rakul Preet( this is the first time she has been given an actual role to perform)
Selva uses the lighting to convey what he says , the green lighting says he's up for something good.
and the red one otherwise.
The character of NGK has a lot of hidden layers. The web spun by Selva is incredible.
The film needs some sort of deep understanding to realise what Selva is saying. A bit of political context would do better In understanding what the movie goes about.
He criticized a political party *cough * *cough * * some party that has to do with mango*.
If you are careful you might catch some tiny bits where he teases some real life incidents.
It was sad that in the theatre , when we were watching , only me and my friend understood that joke.
Shame.
I liked how Selva handles the relationship between Surya and Rakul Preet. He kind of makes it a question mark, it gives it a more definable , understandable premise.
Selva here tried to convey that there can be only two parties that govern most of the world.
He says if you grow up separately you can't even pluck a hair! Hence the character of NGK is very polarising for me!(If you watch the movie you will understand why!)
Few things that shocked me :
1. No real character arcs for the female leads.( Yes , I'm definitely deducting points for this, as in a selvaraghavan movie , female characters are getting used to a strong character arcs and these characters sometimes define the way the plot moves).
2. Yuvans songs didn't impress me.( But the BGM's are really impressive)
3. The f**k is a duet song doing in the middle of a Selva movie , that too in the second half!
4. Sai pallavis acting was a little too overboard for me!
5. The film for most people was an abrupt ending.
Saying these things I understand why Selva had to do these!
Why he is toning down his script!
Reasons are:
1. It is because of us ( yes we).
We fail to appreciate his love and passion for film making, which results in us not getting a movie. He doesn't get appreciated enough! A few years down the lane - this might be called a cult.
2. He being in trouble with the nenjam marapadhu illai, the film not seeing the lights of screens is an issue.
3. Repeated shelving of his films.
All these reasons are why this film is a sort of tradeoff for both Surya and Selva.
They desperately need success.
Then film works for most people for the first half, in the second half they get lost.
Finally,
Answers you were looking for.
1. Will I suggest to watch the film? Absolutely yes.
2. Is this a worst movie? Nope definitely not.(Try watching a movie that rhymes with VOCAL).
3. Are you a sombu for Selva? If you read the review you would have known that even though I liked the movie , I'm bold enough to accept it's faults.
4. Is this where Selva stops making good movies? God , no. The man is a genuis give him some liberty to make good films.
PS: It's a watchable movie.
Surya shines the most.
P.PS. : Review ezhudha katthukuraen ! Thalaivare!
