Pranavh Tries to review - Dandanakka "DON"




Heavy spoilers ahead.

Duh.......

Nanban+Kedi billa Killadi Ranga+ Santosh Subramaniyam/ Emtan Magan = Don.

It is very difficult to draw parallel's  without comparing those above films.


The film is of two parts/ genre's.

1. Comedy

2. Sentiment




The first part is nice and worked for me (there were  some cringey stuff in-between).  Its good to see Soori finally do some decent comedy. I think the chemistry between SK na and Soori works.  Also thanks to endless trove of engineering collage scenes. Please da. Paavam da engineering pasanga. Avangala viturnga. A relatively unwanted heroine. Whose painful purpose is to support the hero in whatever he does. Yayy. A sexual violence is carelessly let of  as it is not the heroine.

The director Cibi seems to have pulled out an autobiography of some sort here (Me to me : No shit sherlock).  He is keen enough to let out toxic parenting as something Normal. The director is something silly too. Whatever he says in the first half, There is something extremely contradicting in the second.

The villains are for name sake. They take a huge 360 of some sorts. Did I tell you there are logical loop holes?. Come on man. Teachers writing an exam, you torture teachers with doubts?, How can someone enter a college and be on rounds with a camera and act like a faculty?, Enga aalu sooriyavamsam paathuthu vandhu irukkaruu pola. Orey short film la world class director aagiduvaru.

There as this legendary dialogue “Ponnungalukku successfula irukkura aambalaingala vida, oruthana success aakkardhu thaan romba pidikkum”. The cringe was so bad that the whole theatre was laughing at that scene.

The director tries to be too melodramatic in the second half. Tries to milk the emotions to the max. Which I guess, family audience ku pudikkum vroo. It was the mail pull for them.

That is where I differ. I didn't like it a bit. Seemed like a overkill. Trying to justify toxic parenting, and pulling out a kedi billa and killadi ranga. A lot of cliched scenes thrown in. That is where it became cringey for me. 

Almost forgot about the sub-plot between raju and shariq, which the director forgot. The film is a goof up for me. But where the director shines is appalling to the family audience. 

The saddest part is that, this film is one of the decent ones I have seen in recent times. Would like to see how the director goes for his second film, without SK or some other big actor it would be difficult for him.

Coming to the positives - SK, SJ, Samudhrakani, SK's mom's character, Anirudh.

Man,  Priyanka Arul Mohan struggles to keep up with SK in dancing. 

Kadaisila the director is giving out  Free advice. I am also giving you some free advice. emotions edukka therinja edunga. Cringe pannadeenga. I know its a hard job. But please, do take it properly. Also toxic parenting is a sensitive topic. Please handle it properly.
