Pranavh Tries to review -Petta!
The film starts with what you would typically like to see in a Rajni film!
This is straight away a film made by a Rajni fan to a Rajni fan!
Most of the reviews you see online are true!
This is infact a love letter from Karthik subbaraj
To Rajni!
I really enjoyed the first half!
In the first half Rajni is everything and Rajni does everything you expect !
Even though Munishkanth ramadoss , is there Rajni does the comedy.
In some places he seems like the hero, in some places he does seem like the villain.
Then Rajni is the ultimate Mass king, there is no denying that fact.
Literally, DOP makes the film lit, hats off for that.
It is such an interesting colour gamut to watch.
Even before the plot is being set by the first half , the Film will certainly satisfy Diehard Rajni fans!
The first half had what I would like to call "EASTER EGGS" a nod to rajnis old films which I had cherished growing up.
Like the nod to the name "KALI"etc etc.
The brilliant use of the old Tamil songs In the background makes the film more and more interesting.
That moment when Rajni says kuzhandaigal la:
He says that he is above all and everyone in the cinema feild, and he sees everyone as his successor's.This was a #GetRajinified moment for me.
The second half of the film literally lags the hell out of you !
The last 15 minutes seemed interesting!
Some of my friends like it!
Some just liked the twist.
But for me it was just Meh...
One other problem with the film was with the number of characters it had. It is nearly impossible to give them a backline and define those characters, Karthik subbaraj has tried his best.
But I would like to say Karthik subbaraj has underutilized the potential characters , this is infact the films biggest flaw.
Seasoned actors like Guru somasundaram ( one of my favourites) had very few scenes.
Simran and trisha had 0 to no scope ( would have let it slide , but this film comes from the director who made IRAIVI).
Nawazuddin Siddiqui seemed unfit for the role this may be due to his unfamiliarity with the tamizh language and I would hesitate to blame him. Vijay sethupathi's role seemed insignificant , this one is Vjs fault . Because of the meatier roles that he had been choosing, it seemed he had very less screen space.
In the last bit you do feel sad for the guy, this is how Vjs makes you to connect with the character.
The lyrics to the songs seemed nice.
Especically this"Enaa Paar
Naan Kaiya Thattandaachu Ulagam, Hey Naan Sonna Pakkam Nikkaama Sozhalum" in Ullalala song.
Just loved it no words , these verses show rajnis mass and appeal.
Anirudh's BGM and songs are definitely a plus to the film.
Overall the first half was too good, the second half struggles.
It is definitely a one time watch to two times watch.
My ratings will be as follows(from low to high):
Unbearable

My verdict: Average!
