Pinnacle of Instrumentation -Thiruda Thiruda (A treat to your ears)


2016 in a interview with film critic Rajeev Masand, composer Amit Trivedi made a surprising admission about the film score that truly inspired him. "One of my friends introduced me to the album and I was awestruck by the kind of music my ears were listening to", he said, "That sound still inspires me, it makes me think how the hell can one think like this. It's fresh and still gives one the feeling of not having heard something like this before."

The album  which made Amit trivedi go gaga was Thiruda Thiruda (1993)

 

Directed by Mani Ratnam and composed by none other than our AR Rahman.

Hmmmm....

I had heard it multiple times... It was good. But why did Trivedi go gaga over it?

I gradually picked my favorite Bluetooth earphones. Opened spotify , My faint memory had failed me. Damn the songs were so good. I had played those songs in LDAC codec (its just a high quality audio codec).

Damn , I literally cried listening to the instrumentation.

A  Recently released (Okay 4 months may be) movie got its name from a song in the album.

Chandralekha would be the album favorite . Let me start with it.
This song was sung by Annupama. Damn her vocals are so electrifying.
The song is so stylish it is filled with energy and spirit. The stylish number is an example of Mozart's understanding of the techno-electric style which was years ahead of any of his contemporaries. 
Even composers today have failed to compose such numbers.

Veerapandi Kottayile is a heavy EDM (Electronic Dance Music) style composition that would have been just as appropriate in the current era. The song uses complex orchestration, the composer's improved skill, in a very operatic setting.

This album is a gem. It should be cherished forever.
At this stage you get the idea. Go and listen to this album now.

On retrospect with Manirathnam-ARR combo. Owing to the commercial failure of the movie, even though the music was great , I miss Rahman Experimenting with the sounds(Yes few Exceptions are there). Albums like these are great and can never be erased from the world of music.
